Fabio Gouvea

Fabio Gouvea /guitars

Guitarist, composer and arranger Fabio Gouvea has been praised for being a musician with a strong melodic approach, a deep harmonic concept, and an uplifting rhythmic feel - all characteristics that have made him one of the most in-demand artists of his generation.

Fabio has played with some of the leading musicians in Brazil and abroad, including Hermeto Pascoal, Hamilton de Holanda, Arismar do Espirito Santo and Vinicius Dorin, to mention a few.

For the past 14 years, Fabio has also been playing, touring and recording with renowed Grammy nominated band, Trio Curupira, alongside Andre Marques and Cléber Almeida.

In addition to performing with some of the most important names in the international music industry, Fabio also leads his own group whom he has recorded 3 albums in collaboration with fellow musicians Donny McCaslin, Helen Sung, John Ellis, Jean Michel Pilc and Rogerio Boccato, among others.

Separately, Fabio is also part of the faculty at the prestigious "Conservatorio Dramático e Musical Dr. Carlos de Campos" in Tatuí, São Paulo, where he has carried out important work for the music community instructing some of the most talented young musicians in Brazil.

Felipe Brisola

Felipe Brisola /bass

Bassist and composer Felipe Brisola is onte of the most sought-after musicians in the Brazilian musical scene today. Notorious for his incredible rhythmic abilities, strong musical awareness, and melodic soloing, Felipe is a virtuoso in both acoustic and electric bass.

Felipe has been performing with some of the most important musicians around the world including Hermeto Pascoal, Toninho Horta, Arismar do Espirito Santo, Nene, Hamilton de Holanda, Teco Cardoso, Monica Salmaso and Vinicius Dorin, among others.

Besides playing with some of the most recognized artists in the international music scene, Felipe has also been part of some of the most interesting and groundbreaking projects in the contemporary Brazilian scene, including Andre Marque's Vintena Brasileira, Fabio Gouvea and Cléber Almeida Group, with whom he has been recording and touring extensively.

In 2016, Felipe recorded his first solo album, where he explores his musicial vision through original compositions and arrangements with a great cast of top musicians from São Paulo.

Felipe serves as a full time faculty member at the prestigious "Conservatorio Dramático e Musical Dr. Carlos de Campos" in Tatuí, São Paulo, one of the best music schools in Brazil. He was also part of the Faculty for the summer program in Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in Chennai, India, in 2015.

Alex Kautz

Alex Kautz /drums

Best known for his musicality, groove and a profound understanding of a variety of styles, percussionist, educator and composer Alex Kautz has found a unique musical voice as a result of his passion for jazz and world music.

Alex has been an important part of the NY competitive music scene for the last decade and has played and/or recorded with some of the top artists in the industry today, including Tim Ries, John Patittucci, Jon Cowherd, Nilson Matta, Steve Wilson, Lenny Andrade, Chico Pinheiro, Fabio Gouvea, Adam Rogers, Helio Alves, Victor Prieto, Lionel Loueke and Tim Hagans, to name a few.

Alex has also led his own groups where he explores the sounds and textures of Brazilian music mixed with jazz and he his currently working on his first solo album.

A Magna Cum Laude graduate from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Alex received the "Best Achievement merit Scholarship" while attending the prestigious institution in pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree in Music. He later received a full scholarship award from Mexico's National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA) to study a Masters of Arts Degree in Aaron Copland School of Music in New York.

As an active educator since 2001, Alex has been an important part of the artistic community in different countries including USA, Mexico, India and Brazil, teaching private lessons as well as master classes. In addition he has been a guest professor in Souza Lima Conservatory and College of Music in São Paulo, Brazil, JAZZUV School of Music in Veracruz Mexico and in Swarnabhoomi Schoom of Music in India.

Joined by guests John Ellis and Magos Herrera, Trio Afora presents their debut album exploring their sounds as a group as well as individual artists using original compositions and classics of the Brazilian repertoire.
